‘We have to open our arms’: Glenn Hansard rides with Ukrainians on Christmas Eve in Dublin

Russian forces bombarded dozens of cities in Ukraine with missile attacks on Christmas Day as Vladimir Putin said he was ready to negotiate with all parties involved, but said Kiev and Western backers had refused to engage.

On December 25, Moscow carried out more than 10 rocket attacks on the Kupyansk area of Kharkiv region and shelled more than 25 towns along the Kupyansk-Liman front line, while nearly 20 towns were hit in Zaporozhye, Ukraine’s Supreme Military Command said.

The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that the day before it had killed around 60 Ukrainian soldiers along the Kupyansk-Liman contact line and destroyed numerous pieces of Ukrainian military equipment.

The new bombing comes after Putin said Russia was ready to negotiate, which Washington dismissed as a stand-off over continued attacks.

“We are ready to negotiate with everyone involved on acceptable solutions, but it’s up to them – it’s not us who refuse to negotiate, it’s them,” Putin told state-run Russia 1 television in an interview yesterday.

Putin: Russia is willing to talk, but Zelensky and the West refuse to negotiate

Russia is ready to negotiate the war in Ukraine, but Kiev and its allies have refused to engage in negotiations, Vladimir Putin said in a new interview on Sunday.

“We are ready to negotiate with everyone involved on acceptable solutions, but it’s up to them – it’s not us who refuse to negotiate, it’s them,” the Russian president told state-run Russia 1 television.

However, he has accused Ukraine and the West of trying to carve up “historic Russia”, signaling that he still wants control of the Russian-speaking territories invaded by his forces – not a trigger for any serious peace talks.
